Welcome to jewelbox :. A rare necklace with larger cut glass pastes than usual. Each of them is just over 10 mm and each is housed in its own individual setting with little loops house the links for the next one. With the setting they come to about 11 mm which is very effective as they circle the neck. The stones are table cut to the front with star slices all the way around the edge and in deep points to the reverse, just as diamonds are. Usually, there are just the facets going from the perimeter to the point. However, these pastes also have smaller facets cut into the larger facets on the perimeters. The open settings allow the light to flood through and play with the facets and show that beautiful dusky amethyst shade to perfection. They are all linked with what seem to be very carefully soldered links which render them fluid in wear. The necklace is completed with a simple chain which fastens with a secure larger ring bolt clasp. I did wonder if the chain was original examining it i can see that the rings attaching the chain to the necklace are soldered so i would say that it was but it could have been put on later professionally. The riviere has been around for centuries and as it is a design that has never been bettered it will probably be around for centuries to come. Completely simple and perfect. App 18 inches long. This is a wonderful size for this age of necklace. The brass fittings show tiny faint areas of tarnish and there is one extra joining ring on one side of the chain. One paste has a dink to the tip which i have shown it is third left from the back. Larger stones are always more susceptible to wear than smaller ones. The facets themselves are smooth to the touch from the outside surface. There are also tiny flea bites, i did not notice anything until examining the necklace for the condition for the listing and imo this does not impact on the effect of this gorgeous piece.
